Egypt’s Power Exports to Eastern Libya Resume

Following last Saturday’s total blackout to the region, Egypt has resumed electricity exports to Libya. According to several Egyptian news outlets, the exports will start with an initial capacity of 70 megawatts. The resumption of electricity exports is reported that have resumed followed the settlement of a portion of the outstanding US$100 million owed to Egypt.

The total debt is reported to be around US$ 14O million. The resumption of export agreement also included a schedule to settle the remaining balance before the end of 2026. It will be recalled that the area from Misrata in the west to the Egyptian border in the east of Libya suffered a sudden total blackout after the reported loss of 1,350 megawatts.
