Belarus & Iran Set to Boost Cooperation in Banking

Iran and Belarus have emphasized the need to facilitate banking and foreign exchange transactions. The 19th session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Belarus—held in Minsk with high-ranking delegations from both nations in attendance—focused on facilitating banking transactions and expanding financial cooperation. Iran Central Bank delegation, led by Director General of International Relations and Cooperation, Hussein Kashiri held discussions with the Belarusian counterparts during the four-day summit regarding practical solutions to remove obstacles hindering foreign exchange and banking transactions.

A key outcome of the summit was the decision to establish a structured mechanism for holding bilateral meetings involving the central banks, commercial banks, and financial institutions of both countries; this measure aims to effectively support trade and economic flows and foster mutual investment. Highlighting the vast economic potential of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the negotiations, Kashiri expressed the full readiness of the country’s banking network and financial institutions to attract direct investment and facilitate the participation of Belarusian banks in major Iranian economic and commercial projects. This summit, aimed at deepening bilateral ties in specialized financial sectors, represents a significant step toward monetary independence and the diversification of financial channels between the two nations amidst the current global economic landscape. - Kayhan
