Norway Opens Qatar Embassy

The Norwegian government said on Friday it had decided ​to open a new embassy ‌in Qatar while closing its diplomatic mission in Malawi, as part ​of a wider review of ​Norway's Foreign Service. The government said ⁠it had decided to establish ​an embassy in Doha. Norway has ​a long-standing business partnership with Qatar, which has considerable potential for expansion and ​increased Norwegian exports, the government ​said. "Norway's engagement with Qatar has increased significantly ‌in ⁠recent years. This is a natural consequence of the increasingly important role Qatar, and the ​GCC countries ​play, ⁠both regionally and internationally," Foreign Minister Espen Barth ​Eide said. Separately, the government ​said ⁠it had decided to close its embassy in Malawi, adding that ⁠the ​embassy will close ​by the end of July 2027.
