One killed, Four Injured after Attack on Iran's Commercial Vessel

At least one person has been killed, and several others sustained injuries after a self-propelled underwater missile struck an Iranian commercial vessel as it was sailing in the Persian Gulf waters off the coast of Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz.

Hossein Amir-Teymouri, Governor of Qeshm Island, stated on Sunday that a projectile fired by the “American-Zionist enemy” struck the merchant cargo ship in proximity to the small Hengam Island and Shib Deraz fishing village.

He added that the attack claimed one civilian life and inflicted injuries on four others. Amir-Teymouri noted that the deadly assault took place at around 5 a.m. local time (0130 GMT), emphasizing that necessary measures have been taken to attend to those injured in the incident. He said further details about the attack and the condition of the victims would be publicized after further investigations have been carried out.

The latest round of aggression against Iran began on February 28, when US and Israeli forces launched large-scale strikes on Iranian territory. Iran’s Armed Forces responded with daily waves of missiles and drones targeting US and Israeli assets across the region, and closed the Strait of Hormuz to US and allied vessels.

On June 17, Iran and the US signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in an effort to end the wars across all fronts. In recent weeks, in violation of the MoU, the US has continued its naval blockade of Iran and struck multiple locations in southern Iran, prompting Tehran to target US military facilities across the region and close the strategic waterway again. - Press TV
