President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that establishing an energy consortium within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization could bring positive benefits to member states and strengthen the bloc’s position in global energy markets.Speaking at the 26th summit of SCO leaders in Bishkek, Pezeshkian outlined key security and economic challenges facing the region and stressed the need to deepen cooperation among member states to promote stability and build a shared future.Drawing on the organization’s more than two decades of experience, Pezeshkian said building trust, respecting national sovereignty, refraining from interference in domestic affairs and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation are essential to achieving lasting security.He also emphasized the importance of strengthening energy security, given the significant energy production and consumption capacities of SCO members.“Establishing an SCO energy consortium could provide a stable model for energy production, supply, transmission and consumption across the organization’s vast geographical area,” Pezeshkian said, adding that such cooperation could benefit member states and enhance the organization’s role in global energy markets.Pezeshkian stressed the importance of dialogue and effective cooperation mechanisms and said Iran is ready to play an active and constructive role in efforts to strengthen the SCO and support new initiatives aimed at enhancing the organization’s cohesion, efficiency and convergence. - Shana
