Limestone Survey Carried Out for Cement Industry South of Najaf

A project to assess limestone reserves suitable for cement production is under way in the Wadi al-Mahari area, south of Najaf governorate. The work is being carried out by the Iraqi Geological Survey, a body within the Ministry of Industry and Minerals.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the project is being executed by a specialist team using data from previous geological surveys, updated databases and geological maps. The work plan includes surveys, drilling, and the collection of rock samples and cores to determine the quantity and quality of limestone deposits.

Extracted samples are subject to field inspection and laboratory analysis, with the aim of producing a final reserve assessment and identifying volumes available for investment in cement manufacturing projects.

Director General Dr. Majid Abd al-Amir Kazim said the objective is to secure the raw materials needed to support the sustainability of industrial projects in the cement sector.
