India Summons Iranian Embassy Official after Attack on UAE Oil Tankers

India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Iran’s deputy ambassador in New Delhi following an attack on two UAE-owned oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz.

The two supertankers, Mombasa B and Al Bahiyah, were attacked early Tuesday in Omani waters.

According to reports, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) was providing support to the tankers at the time of the attack. Iran had previously warned that the southern section of the Strait of Hormuz, known as the “Omani Corridor,” was not secure.

Reports said one Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa B was killed and eight others were injured, including four who were seriously wounded.

Indian media reported that the Foreign Ministry summoned Mohammad Javad Hosseini, Iran’s deputy ambassador to India, to formally protest the attacks on the tankers.

According to India’s Foreign Ministry, the attacks caused fires aboard both vessels and inflicted material damage. The fires have since been brought under control. - WANA
