Energy Consumption Control Essential: Iranian President
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country must adopt responsible energy consumption patterns, warning that excessive use of electricity and gas could lead to serious challenges during both summer and winter. According to president.ir, Pezeshkian made the remarks Monday at a gathering of public relations officials from executive agencies and attended by several cabinet members. “We use three times more electricity and gas than Europe while facing challenges in this sector,” Pezeshkian said. “If this trend continues, it will create problems in summer and winter. But if consumption is managed properly, we will not need to cut gas or electricity supplies to factories, and we will avoid disruptions.” He stressed the importance of speaking honestly with the public, saying inaccurate narratives about Iran’s conditions or its adversaries were counterproductive. “We must speak truthfully to society,” he said. “The message that the enemy is collapsing while we are flourishing is incorrect. Both we and they have problems.” Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran would not compromise its national dignity under pressure. “We will not bow to any power,” he said. “We will not sacrifice the country’s dignity for comfort or personal interests, but we must govern the country with prudence.” Highlighting the role of public relations offices in promoting energy conservation, the president said continued excessive energy consumption would affect all sectors of society. “If we observe proper consumption patterns, we will not face gas and electricity cuts for industries,” he said. “The consequences of wasteful consumption impact everyone.” Pezeshkian also called for greater public participation in governance and national development, saying all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or gender, should have the opportunity to contribute to the country’s progress and dignity. - Shana
