MIDOR Conducts Level 3 Fire Drill to Boost Emergency Preparedness at Egyptian Refinery

A Level 3 simulated fire drill has been successfully carried out at the Middle East Oil Refinery Company (MIDOR) refinery in Alexandria Governorate to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

The exercise was conducted in line with the health, safety, and environment (HSE) pillar of the national petroleum strategy, providing a practical test of the facility’s crisis management systems.

The drill was implemented under the directives of Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and involved various companies operating within the Alexandria Petroleum Geographical Zone alongside the General Directorate of Civil Protection, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

This technical exercise tested the refinery’s evacuation plans, assessed emergency response times, and evaluated the effectiveness of occupational health and safety systems in managing high-risk scenarios.

Badawi emphasized that regular drills are vital for enhancing employee readiness and promoting a robust safety culture across the sector. Officials noted that the successful coordination between the different petroleum entities and civil protection authorities reflected MIDOR’s high level of preparedness and strict compliance with international safety standards.

Safety remains a primary focus of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, which prioritizes occupational health through continuous training and regular emergency simulations. These efforts are designed to protect workers and facilities while ensuring sustainable and efficient operations across Egypt’s energy infrastructure.
