Fuel Card Revision Cuts Daily Gasoline Consumption: Iran's Oil Minister

Iran’s oil minister said a government reform of fuel cards used at gas stations has reduced daily gasoline consumption by about 9 million liters.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting Sunday, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said average daily fuel consumption in the month of Azar stood at about 129 million liters. Of that total, 43% was purchased using station-owned fuel cards, while 57% was bought with personal cards, according to president.ir.

Paknejad said the new gasoline policy has reduced the use of station-owned cards by 17%, while use of personal cards has increased. As a result, daily gasoline consumption has fallen from about 129 million liters to roughly 120 million liters.

He also said about 1,000 people register each day to convert their vehicles to dual-fuel systems, adding that about 33,000 applicants are currently on a waiting list. The cabinet meeting, chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian, also included reports from ministers on government actions across various sectors. - Shana
