SpaceX (Starlink) has held talks in Baghdad as Iraq moves into the final stages of issuing satellite-internet licences, including one for the US company. Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani received the delegation on Thursday, in the presence of US Chargé d'Affaires Joshua Harris.The meeting reviewed licensing procedures, potential cooperation in communications services, and Starlink's planned coverage areas. The Prime Minister emphasised that Iraq is now attracting a wider range of international technology companies, supported by government efforts to provide the infrastructure required for satellite-internet systems.He added that telecommunications remains a strategic priority for the government, with a focus on protecting Iraq's digital sovereignty and building national capabilities by training specialised Iraqi youth for future leadership roles.The Starlink delegation affirmed the company's readiness to begin operations shortly after receiving its formal licence, noting its commitment to supporting Iraq's digital transformation and expanding service availability.
