Road, Bridge Projects Launched in Iraq

The Iraqi government has launched the execution of four major road and bridge projects in the provinces of Wasit and Najaf. The total budget for these projects is 374 billion Iraqi dinars (~US$285 million).

The projects include expansion and rehabilitation of the Kut-Baghdad road, construction of a second carriageway for the Suwaira-Jibla Expressway, addition of a second lane to the Diyuni-Jahan road, and the building of the fifth bridge in Kufa connecting Najaf International Airport with the district of Kufa (via Ghmas) under the high-level plan for pilgrimage visits.

The rollout was announced by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia'a Al-Sudani via video link, in the presence of provincial governors and senior officials.

The expansion of the Kut-Baghdad road is expected to improve connectivity between Baghdad and Wasit, while the new carriageways and bridge in Najaf aim to accommodate large pilgrimage traffic and support local mobility.
