Iran Announces Gasoline Distributed Using Emergency Fuel Cards

About 53 million liters of gasoline are distributed daily in Iran using station emergency fuel cards, the head of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said.

Keramat Veis-Karami said late Tuesday during a TV program on the government’s recent decision to adjust fuel prices that roughly 40% of gasoline purchases nationwide are made with station emergency cards — equal to about 53 million liters per day. He said the cabinet’s main goal is to maximize the use of personal fuel cards, noting that reliance on emergency cards should be kept to a minimum.

Under the new decision, the price of gasoline purchased with station emergency cards will increase to 50,000 (4.4 cents). The implementation date will be announced later. Veis-Karami said the measure is intended to encourage the public to use their personal fuel cards.

Self-declaration system for owners of multiple vehicles

Veis-Karami said that if personal fuel cards are used consistently, up to 80% of people would not need to rely on emergency cards, which would reduce their use to about 20%. He also announced the launch of a new system for individuals who own multiple vehicles. Through this platform, owners will complete a self-declaration form to designate which of their vehicles should receive subsidized gasoline. Their other vehicles will not receive subsidized fuel. Additional details will be provided, he said. - Shana
