Iran Delivers Low-Sulfur Mazut to Power Plants


The managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said 391 million liters of low-sulfur mazut had been delivered to four thermal power plants by late November.

Mohammad-Sadeq Azimifar told Shana that the administration is committed to improving the quality of the country’s petroleum products. He said production and delivery of low-sulfur mazut over the past two months were carried out as part of efforts to complete the fuel supply chain. The move, he added, not only helps meet the fuel needs of thermal power plants but also reduces environmental impacts associated with pollutants.

Azimifar said that a total of 391 million liters of low-sulfur mazut had been supplied to four thermal plants by November 21. Producing low-sulfur mazut, he noted, is among the measures that can significantly reduce consumption of primary power plant fuels such as diesel, particularly during winter peak demand.

According to the report, Salman Es’haqi, spokesman for Parliament’s Health and Treatment Committee, said earlier in an interview with the parliamentary news service that Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad had announced the country would soon begin its first production of low-sulfur mazut. - Shana
