Ian's Kish, Armenia to Expand Tourism Cooperation

Iran's southern island of Kish and Armenia have agreed to strengthen tourism and economic cooperation, with discussions focused on launching direct flights between Yerevan and the Persian Gulf island.

During a joint meeting held Wednesday on the sidelines of the Kish Inox 2025 exhibition, Mohammad Kabiri, Managing Director of the Kish Free Trade Zone Organization, and Grigor Hakobyan, Armenia’s ambassador to Iran, explored ways to expand tourism, economic, and cultural exchanges between the two sides.

Kabiri said the main purpose of inviting foreign ambassadors to Kish was to introduce the island’s unique potential.

“The first focus of our talks was the development of tourism between Yerevan and Kish and the possibility of establishing a direct flight, which requires a formal process. Initial negotiations went well, and both sides expressed serious willingness to advance the issue,” he said.

He added that cooperation between Kish and Armenia would be pursued in two main areas of tourism and trade, and noted ongoing studies on cargo routes from Yerevan to the Persian Gulf through Kish.

Hakobyan expressed satisfaction with his visit, saying Kish has great capacities and facilities. He said he believes the two sides can start new cooperation between Armenia and Kish, especially in tourism. He also proposed that Armenian tourism influencers visit Kish to explore its potential firsthand. - IRNA
