Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has laid the foundation stone the Maysan Intravenous Solutions and Pharmaceuticals Plant -- Iraq's second such facility -- marking what his office describes as another milestone for the country's growing private pharmaceutical industry.Speaking at the ceremony in Maysan [Missan], the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's confidence in the private sector's capacity to meet national demand for medicines and medical supplies. He noted that pharmaceutical manufacturing has seen remarkable progress over the past two years, becoming a cornerstone of Iraq's medical and national security strategy.The new plant will meet the full demand for intravenous solutions in southern governorates and will feature advanced German production technology. Over the past two years, five new IV solution factories have been inaugurated, covering 70 percent of local demand, with full self-sufficiency expected by early next year.National pharmaceutical production has also expanded to cover 40-45 percent of Iraq's needs. Thirteen factories have been opened so far, with nineteen more under construction and 170 new applications for establishment currently under review.
