Tehran, Algiers Seek Synergy in Energy Ties

On the eve of the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Iran’s Oil Minister met with Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines to discuss expanding cooperation between Tehran and Algiers in the energy sector.

Mohsen Paknejad met Wednesday, with Algerian Energy and Mines Minister Mohamed Arkab, expressing appreciation for Algeria’s principled stance in supporting oppressed nations and condemning the brutal attacks by the Zionist regime. He emphasized the two countries’ shared views on independence and constructive cooperation in the energy field.

Highlighting Iran’s vast energy potential, Paknejad invited Algeria to participate and invest in Iranian oil and gas projects.

Arkab, for his part, praised Iran’s advances in the oil and gas industry, describing them as a source of pride and calling for deeper energy cooperation between Tehran and Algiers.

As Africa’s largest natural gas producer and a founding member of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, Algeria holds a strategic position in the global energy market and remains an active partner of Iran in multilateral energy initiatives. In 2023, Algeria’s gas production reached about 105 billion cubic meters, nearly half of which was exported via pipelines or as LNG.

The 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held Thursday in Doha, Qatar, with ministers and senior officials from member states in attendance. - Shana
