Iraq Studies Measures to Reduce Car Imports


Iraq's Ministry of Trade has held an expanded meeting, chaired by Hashim Mohammed Hatem, Director General of the General Company for Car and Machinery Trade, to discuss preparing a study aimed at reducing car imports in line with comments from the Ministerial Council for Economy. The meeting was part of the work of the committee established under Diwani Order (28 S) of 2025.

Representatives from several government bodies participated, including the Directorate of Quality Control, Directorate of Planning, General Directorate of Traffic, Ministry of Environment, Directorate of Roads and Bridges, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Oil, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Transport and the National Investment Commission.

According to a ministry statement, the session focused on addressing the Council's observations and evaluating policy options consistent with government priorities to regulate vehicle imports, balance domestic demand, protect the environment, and support infrastructure.

The committee will develop practical recommendations and submit its final report and proposals to the higher authorities in the coming days for a decision.
