Libya Commissions Solar Power Plant in Kufra

In a significant milestone for Libya’s clean energy transition, Infinity Libya—a subsidiary of Infinity Group—alongside the Al-Jouf Free Zone, has officially completed and commissioned the country’s first-ever 1 MW solar power plant. The plant, located in Kufra, was handed over on May 25, 2025, ahead of schedule and is now fully operational.

The project, which began following the agreement signing on September 24, 2024, was executed in just eight months—a notable achievement in terms of development speed and implementation efficiency. With a planned capacity of 1.14 MWp, the solar facility was developed in partnership with Lamsa Company for General Contracting and Real Estate Investment, which served as the main contractor.

The plant is expected to generate approximately 2,182 MWh of clean electricity annually, catering directly to the energy needs of the Al-Jouf Free Zone. In doing so, it will offset around 545,000 liters of diesel usage each year and contribute to a reduction of nearly 1,300 tons of carbon emissions—bolstering national efforts toward environmental sustainability and energy diversification.

Importantly, the plant is operated entirely by a team of locally trained engineers employed by Infinity Libya, underscoring the company’s commitment to local capacity building and knowledge transfer. Beyond its environmental impact, the project has also supported local job creation and technical skill development within the Libyan renewable energy sector.

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-founder and Chairman of Infinity, described the project as a defining moment for the nation:

“Delivering this project ahead of schedule is a proud moment for our team and for Libya. It signals what is possible when strong partnerships and local talent come together in service of a shared vision for clean, reliable energy. This solar plant is more than just a first for Libya—it is a model for sustainable development that we hope to replicate across the region.”

Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Fahd Benhalim, Managing Director of Infinity Libya, said:

“This project represents a turning point for renewable energy in Libya. With the Kufra plant now operational, we are not only reducing dependence on diesel but also laying the groundwork for more ambitious developments. We are actively working to expand renewables in key sectors including oil & gas, agriculture, and industry—ensuring that clean energy becomes a cornerstone of Libya’s future.”

The successful completion of the Kufra solar plant signals a promising future for Libya’s renewable energy ambitions and sets the stage for further clean energy developments across the region.
