Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Prof. Eng. Khaled Battal Al-Najm, has launched the construction of the country's largest chemical production plant in Basra. Located at the State Company for Petrochemical Industries, the project aims to boost Iraq's production capacity and create job opportunities.The plant, developed in partnership with the private sector, will feature modern, eco-friendly membrane cell technology. It will produce 120 tons of caustic soda, 106 tons of liquid chlorine, 185 tons of hydrochloric acid, and 150 tons of sodium hypochlorite per day, meeting the needs of the oil, industrial, and water sectors.During the foundation stone ceremony, the minister emphasized the project's strategic importance for industrial production, particularly in providing essential chemicals for water disinfection and other uses. He also reiterated the government's commitment to supporting private sector involvement and promoting sustainable industrial development in Basra.
