Egyptian, Greek Ministers Review Economic Ties

Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tasos Hadjivassiliou, responsible for economic diplomacy and extroversion, and Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos met with Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Minister of Investments and External Trade Hassan ElKhatib.

The meeting aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

The meeting followed the work of the High-Level Cooperation Council, which was held in Athens on 7 May under the leadership of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the excellent economic relations between the two nations and discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation in energy, tourism, shipping, and new technologies.

Minister Hadjivassiliou discussed Greek exports and agreed with the Egyptian side on organizing a business mission to Cairo this year.

“We are strengthening the strategic cooperation between Greece and Egypt in investments and the overall economic sector," Minister Theodorikakos said.

The discussions also focused on the GREGY Project, the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection cable, serving as a strategic investment of critical importance for Europe’s energy security and green transition.

Moreover, they discussed specific measures to strengthen cooperation in trade, industry, innovation, and start-up businesses, with the aim of promoting mutual investments and leveraging the two countries' strategic roles in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

They also suggested specific measures to strengthen Egyptian investments in Greece and Greek investments in Egypt to create a favourable framework for bilateral business activity, based on stability, trust, and prospects for sustainable development.
