The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on Kuwait to contribute to the important projects of Iraq’s strategic initiative of the Development Road.Al-Sudani’s remarks took place during his meeting on Sunday with the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Zaman, when he emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral relations in a number of sectors, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).Al-Sudani emphasized the government’s desire to promote bilateral collaboration in a number of areas, highlighting the availability of a suitable investment environment for the operations of foreign businesses, including Kuwaiti companies.Kuwait has the opportunity to participate in the Development Road’s projects and take advantage of the investment possibilities that have been offered, which helps to strengthen the two countries’ interrelated interests and economic integration, according to Al-Sudani.Under the sponsorship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Al-Sudani, a quadripartite agreement on the Development Road project was signed in April 2024 by Iraq, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. As the four countries seek to create the structures required to carry out the project, the agreement seeks to strengthen collaboration on Iraq’s Development Road key initiative. As the Development Road will connect the Al-Faw Grand Port in southern Iraq to the border with Turkey by extending a railway and road network, Iraq’s US$17 billion project is expected to make the country a transit hub by reducing the time it takes to go from Asia to Europe.Together with the Al-Faw Grand Port, the project will also feature pipelines for the transportation of energy and a highway for land transportation. As a regional corridor to transport goods and energy, the Iraqi project will generate many job opportunities for the country and the countries of the region, as well as opportunities for industries and businessmen, and it will be a center attracting global trade.
