Oil Pipeline Monitoring Using Fiber Optics, Motion Sensors to Begin Soon in Iran

The managing director of Iran Oil Pipelines and Telecommunications Company (IOPTC) announced that a physical monitoring project for oil pipeline corridors using fiber optics and motion sensors will soon be implemented. He emphasized that any encroachment on the pipelines will be detected as quickly as possible.

Ali Ahmadipour, during an inspection of the Isfahan oil pipelines, noted the existence of unjust sanctions against Iran's oil industry. He stated that, thanks to self-sufficiency achievements under the Islamic Revolution, the company maintains significant control over 14,000 kilometers of pipelines and 200 oil transfer centers across the country.

He explained that precise tools are used to measure pipeline pressure 24 hours a day, ensuring that any encroachment on the pipelines will be identified promptly.

The CEO added that the physical monitoring project for oil pipeline corridors, utilizing fiber optics and motion sensors, will soon be operational. This system will detect any movement based on sound and vibration along the pipelines.

Ahmadipour also mentioned that the use of drone technology for pipeline monitoring is under consideration. He highlighted that the most effective way to prevent oil pipeline theft is to impose appropriate and deterrent penalties on thieves to avoid damage to the country's oil facilities and equipment. - Shana
