Iraq Plans Investment in Sulphur & Phosphate

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the development of Iraq's sulphur and phosphate industries. Attendees included the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, the Ministers of Oil, Finance, Industry and Minerals, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI).

The meeting focused on optimising the use of Iraq's substantial mineral reserves to boost economic security and diversify state revenues. Al-Sudani stressed the need to revive investment in these resources, which have remained underutilised for decades.

A specialised committee, led by the Prime Minister's Energy Advisor and senior officials from the oil and industry ministries, has been tasked with presenting a strategy within one month for maximising sulphur and phosphate production, including both associated and mined sulphur.
