GECF Meeting Represents Opportunity to Deepen Understandings: Iranian Official

Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Commerce said on Saturday that GECF meeting represents opportunity to deepen understandings.

The official made the remarks addressing an Expert Meeting on the sidelines of the 26th meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran. “It is a privilege to address such a distinguished gathering of experts, policymakers, and professionals dedicated to advancing the role of natural gas in the global energy landscape,” the official stated.

He expressed his gratitude to Mohamed Hamel for his exceptional dedication and expertise, saying “Your commitment to producing high-quality research, insightful reports, and critical data is instrumental for member countries like ours. Your work provides a foundation for informed decision-making and fosters stronger cooperation among our nations.”

Mousavi went on to say that the global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation, with natural gas at the heart of this transition. “As a cleaner, reliable, and versatile energy source, it plays a critical role in addressing the dual challenge of meeting growing energy demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. For many of our nations, it is not just a resource; it is an engine for economic growth, a pathway to energy security, and a cornerstone of sustainable development,” he stated.

Referring to the meeting, the deputy minister said the event represents an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the trends, challenges, and opportunities within the natural gas market. “It is a platform where knowledge meets practice, and where the collective expertise of the GECF member states can contribute to shaping policies that benefit all stakeholders,” Mousavi noted.

He extended his thanks to the GECF Secretariat for their outstanding work and for making this workshop possible, adding that “To all the participants here today, I thank you for your dedication to advancing the shared objectives of our Forum.”

Concluding his speech, the official called for seizing the opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and reaffirming commitment to a future where natural gas continues will play a vital role in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply for generations to come. - Shana
