KBR Starts Feasibility Study for Petchem Project in Iraq

The Iraqi Ministry of Planning, in collaboration with the Ministries of Oil and Industry and Minerals, has launched a feasibility study for the strategic Al-Nibras [Nebras] Petrochemicals Project in Basra.

Consultancy firm KBR has been appointed to conduct a comprehensive technical and economic review to map an optimal implementation path, building on prior studies.

The head of the Ministry's Industrial Planning Department, Ali Hussein Jari, emphasized the project's potential to diversify Iraq's economy and boost revenue through linked sectors.

Representatives from relevant ministries, KBR experts, and project managers attended the meeting.

British oil and gas company Shell withdrew from the proposed US$11-billion project earlier this year.
