Customs Automation in Iraq to Phase Out Paper Transactions

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has directed an accelerated shift from paper to digital transactions within the customs system as part of a key economic reform.

During a meeting to review the detailed plan for the second phase of customs automation, Al-Sudani emphasized the need to complete fiber-optic connections across all remaining border checkpoints, following the automation of 11 high-revenue crossings.

This transition is expected to boost efficiency, transparency, and revenue while simplifying procedures, aligning with government goals for administrative and economic modernization.

Iraq has been working towards full customs automation, including implementation of the global Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA).
