Water Supply Project Launched in Erbil

The Kurdistan Regional Government, led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, has laid the foundation for a US$480 million emergency water supply project in Erbil.

Set for completion within 550 days, the project aims to fully resolve the city's water shortage by treating 480,000 cubic meters of water daily and supplying 20,000 to 21,000 cubic meters of potable water per hour to various neighborhoods.

The project will draw water from the Greater Zab River and use modern filtration and sterilization techniques in line with WHO standards. Additionally, it will allow the closure of over 1,000 wells to conserve groundwater.
