Lufthansa has announced an extended suspension of passenger and cargo flights to Amman, Beirut, Erbil, Tel Aviv and Tehran. The suspension will now last up to and including 26th August.In an earlier announcement, the German airline blamed the decision on what it described as "exceptional circumstances in the region," adding that the situation will be continuously monitored and reassessed with a view to resuming flights.Security has been on alert across the Middle East following the killing of the Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran on 31st July.
