Minister of Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government Eng. Hisham Sharaf on Sunday commented on recent news regarding efforts by some countries in the region and beyond to sign security agreements with major powers to ensure their security and peace. In a statement to Saba, Minister Sharaf said, "The efforts of some countries in the region and other parts of the world to sign security agreements with major powers were recently highlighted by US President Joe Biden, who mentioned that an Arab country had requested protection from one of its neighbors. This underscores the importance of considering the concept of collective security for all countries in the region, especially the GCC countries and the Arabian Peninsula, before requesting such security guarantees from any major power."Minister Sharaf emphasized that the national leadership in Sana'a recognizes the critical importance of collective security for the region's countries, identifying the real enemy, and uniting to confront it.He noted, "The Yemeni people, by their civilized nature, love peace, as repeatedly emphasized by the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, in his speeches and lectures. However, when faced with aggression and siege, they are capable of defending themselves and the Palestinian cause, which is central to the Arab and Islamic nation and all free people worldwide."Minister Sharaf urged all neighboring countries to trust that Sana'a is committed to lasting peace for their peoples and regimes. He stressed that confidence-building measures, addressing urgent humanitarian and economic issues, and achieving a comprehensive peaceful political settlement should not be tied to any other files. Instead, he advocated for the establishment of bilateral relations based on non-interference in internal affairs and mutual benefits, ensuring the security and safety of the region's countries without relying on the protection of major powers. This approach would enable each neighboring and sister country to pursue its projects and future ambitions. He concluded by underscoring that a stable and prosperous Yemen aligns with the aspirations of the Yemeni people and does not pose a threat to any party. On the contrary, Yemen serves as a factor of security and stability for all countries in the region. As an integral part of the GCC region and the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen is capable of collaborating with all regional countries to achieve collective security.
