Dakhliyah governorate has unveiled a proposal to establish a project called Jabal Shams Grand Canyon aimed at attracting investors, boosting the national economy and promoting tourism in the sultanate.Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, expressed his pride in announcing the selection of the Jabal Shams Grand Canyon project as one of the winners of the 2024 Governorate’s Competition. “This project aligns with Royal directives focused on development of governorates and Oman Vision 2040.”Hajri underscored the project’s significance as a beacon of development set amidst the natural splendour of Jabal Shams.This tourism development endeavour is intricately designed to harmonise with the surrounding environment, including mountain slopes and unique geological formations. Its sustainable design will ensure synergy between the locale and its inhabitants, maximising investment potential.Developed in collaboration with local youth and small to medium enterprises, the project aims to integrate seamlessly with existing and future development and service projects in Jabal Shams and throughout Dakhliyah.The project master plan encompasses several key features, including a recreational area, glass walkway, tourist resort, zip line, and a hiking trail. It will include geological exhibitions, a rock garden and an adventure centre.Additionally, the project will see the establishment of a coffee farm, fruit orchards, a summer camp, and a garden for seasonal activities. Kiosks selling seasonal products, a theatre of 500 seating capacity, and an information centre will also be developed.Situated at an altitude of 3,000m above sea level, covering an area of 148,000sqm, the project is expected to generate 24 investment opportunities and create 304 job openings.The geological exhibitions aim to highlight Oman’s rich geographical diversity, while the recreational area will offer children’s games, creative workshops and a 200m zip line offering tourists an exhilarating blend of adventure and exploration.Additionally, a 97m long and 2.5m wide glass walkway will offer visitors a sensation of floating in the air, and 12 kiosks in a public square will offer a variety of local products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, traditional sweets and souvenirs.The unveiling has sparked significant interest among citizens and stakeholders. Hilal Saeed al Yahyai from Jabal Shams expressed confidence that such transformative projects will attract investors and accelerate regional development efforts.
