Egypt's 1st High-Speed Train to be Delivered in October

Egypt will receive Germany's first high-speed train Siemens next October. The train will travel along the electrified railway network of approximately 2 thousand kilometers that the Ministry of Transport is building.

The train will operate on the Sokhna-Alexandria-Matrouh high-speed line, according to what was reported by the same ministry. At the end of May 2022, the German company Siemens Mobility agreed with the Egyptian authorities to start the second phase of the 12 billion euro maxi project "for the construction of a safe and sustainable electric railway system, including high-speed trains speed, regional and freight, and a new 2 kilometer railway network" which will extend the line via Luxor and Aswan to Abu Simbel.

The overall investment amounts to 12 billion euros. Egyptian companies Orascom and Arab Contractors will build railway stations, tunnels and bridges and will be engaged in basic works. The first phase of the project involves the construction of a high-speed connection between the Mediterranean cities of Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria via Cairo and the New Administrative Capital with the port of Ain Sokhna, on the coast of the Red Sea.
