Iran Becomes ILO’s Chair of Board of Directors for 7th Time

Iran’s Ambassador to Geneva Ali Bahreini, on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was appointed as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The 350th meeting of the Board of Directors of the ILO started with the participation of representatives of 187 countries and international worker-employer unions. It is chaired by the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Geneva.

In this session, the Board of Directors put the following topics on the agenda: articles of the association of the organization, various bylaws, the status of the ILO among the member states, the legal agreements reached with other international organizations and issues related to the standard activities of the organization, including the approval of report forms for the conventions and recommendations, selection of reporting tools and measures related to supporting human rights.

The sessions of the Board of Directors will continue until March 14, 2024. In addition to chairing the Board of Directors, the Islamic Republic of Iran also undertook the role of coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Group of the organization.

As one of the founders of the ILO, Iran has been a member of the organization since its establishment in 1919 and has been a constant member of the Board of Directors of the organization since 1986. - Tasnim
