The Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF) in Algeria has reaffirmed its boycott of the Moroccan port of Tanger Med, contrary to media claims. They released a new note clarifying that «the decision to refuse domiciliation for transport contracts involving transshipment/transit through Moroccan ports remains in full effect». This follows their controversial January 29th press release, interpreted by Moroccan media as a reversal of the boycott. However, the ABEF clarifies that the authorization granted by the Algerian Ministry of Transport only applies to specific perishable imports shipped before January 10th, and does not represent a broader policy shift. It's worth noting that the original January 10th decision by the ABEF prohibited «any domiciliation operation» for contracts involving transit through Moroccan ports. This latest statement reiterates their unwavering stance despite conflicting interpretations.
