Armenia to Use Iranian Ports for Doing Business with India

Armenia seeks to expand its defense cooperation with India and use the Iranian ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas for trade and economic activities with the South Asian nation.

Iran has allowed Armenia to get access to its ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas to facilitate trade with India. The proposed route will be a complementary component of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) for doing trade between eastern and western parts, and the route will facilitate regional trade more than ever. Armenia has shown more willingness to cooperate with India in the defense and logistics fields.

In this regard, Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani on January 3 said Armenian vessels can use the Iranian ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas. Yerevan is signing the official economic contracts with Tehran to use the maritime ports for doing arms trade with India, he maintained. The growth of trilateral cooperation between Armenia, India and Iran has led to the improvement of the infrastructures of the regional transit, he said.

Armenia can also be a transport route for Iran to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European countries. - Tasnim
