Majlis Speaker Calls for Promoting Iran-Serbia Oil, Petchem Coop.

Iran’s Parliament speaker on Sunday said Tehran-Belgrade relations and cooperation in oil and petrochemical industries can be boosted. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, who made the remarks in a meeting with his counterpart Vladimir Orlić, added Iran and Serbia’s parliaments should expand the two countries’ economic ties.

Iran’s top legislator said the development of bilateral parliamentary relations will pave the way for promoting cooperation between the Iranian and Serbian governments and peoples. There are numerous opportunities for greater cooperation between the two nations, underlined Ghalibaf, adding, “The more the two states broaden their economic relations, the greater stability will be brought to the Middle East and the Balkan regions.” He attached great significance to the Balkan region’s stability and called Serbia a leading country in the geopolitical region.

Orlić, the speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, who arrived in Tehran at the head of a delegation on Saturday night, said his visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in all areas. Energy is of great significance across the globe, said the top Serbian official, continuing the issue has now become more important due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The European countries have faced an energy crisis as a result of the war, mentioned Orlić, citing the current energy prices and its supply conditions. Given the status quo, he continued, the governments, which are determined to resolve the crisis, are expected to work out a strategy through cooperating with their allies. - Shana
