Oman Set to be World's Largest Hydrogen Exporter

A joint report issued by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the International Energy Agency confirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is on its way to becoming one of the largest hydrogen exporters in the world by 2030. The report reviewed the competitive potential of renewable energy and hydrogen in the Sultanate of Oman. This comes during the visit of an Omani delegation headed by Eng Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, to the agency's headquarters in the French capital, Paris.

The Sultanate of Oman has allocated an area of more than 50,000 square kilometers in the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar to green hydrogen projects in stages and 15,000 kilometers in other governorates for clean energy projects, aiming to produce more than 1 million tons of green hydrogen by 2030 to exploit 30% of the land currently allocated in 2050 to produce approximately 8 million tons, with an investment value of US$140 billion.

During the past period, the Sultanate of Oman has taken important steps to keep abreast of global shifts in energy and climate issues, by announcing its commitment to zero-carbon neutrality by 2050, announcing the features of its green hydrogen strategy, finalizing the review of regulatory and legal frameworks and developing policies to advance green energy transformation projects and plans.
