General Electricity Company of Libya Embarks on 1st Solar Project to Support Public Grid

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has commenced the implementation of the first public solar power project in the Al-Saddada district southeast of Misrata. The system implemented by the French company Total Energy will be linked to the public grid, with a capacity of 500 megawatts.

The GECOL said the project is part of its strategy to utilize the resources at hand. "This comes within the framework of cooperation between the company and the Renewable Energy Authority to implement a strategic plan to integrate the electrical capacities produced from renewable energy sources," the GECOL stated.
