The US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking visited Oman on Monday to review the efforts exerted to support Yemen in reaching a political solution that achieves security and stability for the war-torn country and the region. H E Sheikh Khalifa al Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs in the Foreign Ministry, received Lenderking, to discuss efforts to bring peace in Yemen.In a statement, the US Department of State informed that Lenderking is travelling in the region from February 3, with stops in Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE. ‘The special envoy will continue concerted US diplomatic efforts with the UN, regional and international partners to advance a comprehensive and inclusive peace process. The UN-led truce and ensuing period of calm has led to continuing tangible, life-saving benefits to Yemenis, including reduced fighting and civilian casualties, regular commercial flights, and continued fuel flow. Lenderking will urge the parties to seize this opportunity to intensify their engagement with the UN to launch a Yemeni-Yemeni political process that can durably end the war,’ the State Department said.During his trip, the Special Envoy will encourage donors to give generously in 2023 to fund life-saving aid for Yemenis as part of the 2023 UN Humanitarian Response Plan. The US is committed to supporting Yemen’s peace and recovery process to enable Yemenis chart a brighter future for their country and promote justice and accountability, it added.
