The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said: “Iran and Algeria can cooperate in the field of knowledge-based issues, infrastructure, and energy studies, especially oil and gas.”According to ICANA, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf met and talked with Ibrahim Boughali, speaker of the People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), on the sidelines of the 17th meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states, which was held in Al Jazeera, the capital of Algeria, on Sunday evening (29 January).In this meeting, referring to the key role of the parliament in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ghalibaf said: “The government and parliament of Algeria and Iran must have a new and specific plan for relations, one of the solutions of which is to try to hold a joint economic commission in a short time and in the high level.”He stated that Iran currently has a large volume of trade exchanges with Oman, the UAE, Turkey, Qatar, Iraq, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and China, and its economic balance with these countries is more than US$80 billion. This is while the trade relations between Iran and Algeria is only US$100 million which is unacceptable. Ghalibaf clarified: “The two countries have the possibility to have serious communication in the field of knowledge-based issues and infrastructures.” - Shana
