An Iranian airline will launch Tehran-Tashkent and Tehran-Samarkand direct flights by the end of December, announced the Uzbek ambassador to Iran on Saturday. Speaking in a ceremony attended by CEO and officials from Qeshm Air and representatives of some travel agencies in Tehran, Bakhodir Abdullaev said the increase of direct flights between the two countries will create a favorable opportunity for the development of the tourism industry, and as a result, the friendly relations between our peoples will continue to strengthen.Currently, another Iranian operator Zagros Airlines has direct flights between the capitals of the two countries once a week, but new flights to be operated by Qeshm Air will be available at the price of about US$250 which for a round trip ticket.The centuries-old friendship and cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran are getting stronger day by day, said the envoy, adding that on September 14-16, the official visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi to Uzbekistan and the high-level negotiations with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev took place in an effective and practical spirit. He added that 18 agreements and memorandums were signed during the visit in order to further expand multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.“Agreement on simplification of visa procedures for representatives of business and scientific circles and tourist groups and cooperation program in the field of tourism from 2022-2025 were among the signed agreements,” noted Abdullaev. The World Tourism Organization has declared Samarkand the World Tourism Capital in 2023, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation declared Khiva the Islamic World Tourism Capital in 2024. The first direct flight between Iran and Uzbekistan to be operated by Qeshm Air will be on December 22. - Iran Daily
