Libya, Algeria Agree on Electricity Generation Project

A delegation from the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) reviewed with Algerian Energy Minister, Mohammed Argoub, prospects of cooperation between GECOL and the Algerian Sonelgaz company, as well as steps to support and assist Algeria to implement GECOL’s development program, electricity generation and maintenance of current transmission networks, according to a statement by the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines.

The Algerian Minister met with the CEO of GECOL, Wiam Al-Abdeli, and GECOL’s delegation in the Algerian capital on Monday in the presence of Sonelgaz company to discuss joint cooperation in the electricity sector, as the Ministry reiterated that the visit by GECOL came as per Sonelgaz’s strategy in the region and globally.

GECOL’s CEO, in a meeting Sunday with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbiebah, expected that the new under-construction power plants could increase electricity generation to 7400 megawatts, the highest for GECOL, warning that there is a high usage rate now and needs to be monitored.
