The member states of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) agreed on Monday to admit Mozambique as observer member. The decision made by the 17 member states during the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum held on Monday February 21, 2022 in Doha, Qatar. The current GECF observers include Malaysia, Norway, Iraq, Peru, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates. The GECF comprises 11 member countries including Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.Mozambique is a southeastern African nation. Its capital city is Maputo and Portuguese is the official language of the country. Mozambique is estimated to have 250 Tcm of gas reserves, including shale gas. GECF member states account for 44 % of global gas production, 67 % of the world’s gas reserves, 64 % of the gas transmission lines and 66 % of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) trade across the globe. The 6th GECF Heads of States Summit is to be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
