WSA: Iran Producing Over 71% of Steel in West Asia

The World Steel Association (WSA) in its latest report has announced that Iran’s steel production in April 2021 increased by 6.4% compared to the same period in 2020, adding that the country produces 71.4% of steel manufactured in West Asia. The World Steel Association said in its report that Iran’s steel production in April 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 increased by 6.4% which equals 2.5 million tons.

It also added that Iran’s steel production in the first 4 months of the current year has reached 10 million tons, which shows an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period in 2020. According to the report, in February 2021, the country ranked 10th among the world’s biggest steel producers, noting that the country has maintained the same position since then. Also, steel production in West Asia has increased by 15.3% and reached 3.5 million tons, and considering Iran’s production of 2.5 million tons this month, 71.4% of West Asian steel production belongs to the country.

Last month, Iran announced plans to produce 32 million tons of crude steel in the current calendar year (started March 21, 2021). Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine And Trade is planning to produce 32 million tons of crude steel, to set a 27.7% rise in comparison with last year (ended March 20, 2020).
