Head of Agricultural Jihad Organization of Zanjan province Javad Tarasi said that the region exported US$4.9 million worth of dairy products in 1398 (March 2019-20). “The dairy products included cream, buttermilk, yogurt and cheese weighing 3,356 tons and worth US$4.9 million were exported to Iraq, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait,” Javad Tarasi said. He pointed to the high production capacity of milk and dairy products in the Northwestern Zanjan province and the high quality of these products.In relevant remarks on 27 October 2019, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani announced that Iran is seeking a self-sufficiency policy in dairy industry, with opening a giant dairy plant in West of Tehran in order to cut its butter imports to zero.A large Iranian dairy factory is to open in a location to the West of Tehran as authorities seek a full halt to massive imports of butter which costs tens of millions of dollar each year. Touring the site of the factory, Rahmani described the dairy plant as “a mega project” which will make Iran self-sufficient in production of butter and other milk fats. - Fars
