The Chairman of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-e Eshagh said that in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-December 22, 2019), US$9 billion of non-oil goods and services were exported to Iraq. Noting that the Iran-Iraq trade has been influenced by insecurities in Iraq, Al-e Eshagh said that despite the decrease in exports to Iraq, exports to Iraqi Kurdistan have improved, reported Fars News Agency.Iran’s exports to Iraq in the preceding Iranian year was US$13 billion, according to the private sector official. “On January 22 some 2,000 trucks loaded with goods left Iran for Iraq,” said Al-e Eshagh.As reported earlier, exports to Iraq through the Mehran Border Terminal, located in western Ilam Province, amounted to about 1.829 million tons during the ten months to January 20, 2020.The Director General of Ilam Customs Administration Ruhollah Gholami said on Sunday the country’s exports to Iraq through the major gate witnessed a 35% increase in volume, compared with the corresponding period last year.According to him, over 94,000 trucks carrying goods to Iraq passed through the Mehran Border Terminal in the period, showing a 39% growth year-on-year. Iran’s exported commodities to Iraq through the Mehran border are mainly cement, agricultural, steel and plastic products, cars, auto parts and petrochemicals. - Iran Daily
