The first group of foreign tourists from Russia arrived in Tehran after the visa ban was lifted, said Iran’s deputy tourism minister. Ali-Asghar Shalbafian added that following the announcement of instructions and measures to host foreign tourists in 31 Iranian provinces, the country is getting ready to host the visitors, IRNA wrote. The group, which includes Russian tour operators, was ready to travel to Iran in June following an agreement between Iran’s Tourism Ministry and Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism. It is expected to pay a visit to Kerman, Mahan, Lut Star Ecocamp, Shiraz, and Isfahan, Shalbafian said. Shalbafian recently announced that the National Headquarters for Coronavirus Control agreed to reopen the country’s borders to foreign tourists, based on the new conditions prevailing in the country after crossing the fifth wave of the pandemic, increasing vaccinations, and at the request of the Tourism Ministry. As a condition for entry into the country, the headquarters has instructed tourists and the host communities to follow all health protocols, the official added. Back in September, Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Minister Ezzatollah Zarghami announced that by the order of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi the issuance of tourist visas and the flow of foreign tourists from land and air borders will resume from Oct. 23 following 19 months of suspension. - Iran Daily
