Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Aïmene Benabderrahmane said Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that dealing climate issues must be based on the "need for the advanced countries to "assume their historical responsibility" while taking into consideration the "differences" between those countries and the developing countries. In a speech delivered at the Green Middle East Initiative summit, in his capacity as representative of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the prime minister said that "Algeria, which has ratified many international conventions aimed at reducing gas emissions and combating global warming, said that addressing climate issues must be based on the need for advanced countries to assume their historical responsibility while taking into account the differences between these nations and developing countries."Noting that this meeting is taking place at a time when all countries of the world are going through the Covid-19 pandemic, which is bringing new challenges to the concerns of our governments and peoples, Benabderrahmane stressed the need to adapt to the new realities and find scientific solutions to the risks threatening the world. The prime minister cited the hazards resulting from the damage to the ecological balance due to the irrational exploitation of natural resources, in an unfair economic race that led to imbalances that had disastrous repercussions on the climate. These short- and long-term impacts will pose a real threat to the lives of individuals and state economies, he concluded.
