The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday gave instructions to raise the awareness of traders and civil society of the law on the fight against speculation and present it to citizens via the media so that they distinguish between the storage organized for commercial purposes and the storage aimed at creating shortage or generating a price surge, the Council of Ministers said in a statement. President Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers devoted to the consideration and approval of a draft law on the fight against speculation. He instructed the Minister of Trade to "raise awareness of traders and civil society of the law on the fight against speculation and present it to citizens via the media so that they distinguish between the storage organized for commercial purposes and the storage aimed at creating shortage or generating a price surge. In this regard, he stressed the need to "highlight the responsible role of civil society and the media in the fight against unfair trade practices" and "encourage the rationalization of consumption to combat parasites and parties who try to increase prices to create chaos and despair.”President Tebboune also gave instructions to revise the penal code to provide a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison and life imprisonment for individuals involved in the crime of speculation, as announced recently at an interview with representatives of the national press, in which he had called speculation "the worst enemy" of the national economy and the citizen.
