The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) is keen on disseminating legal culture in Qatar by conducting training courses throughout the year, according to QICCA board member for International Relations Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani. Sheikh Thani made the statement during a webinar titled ‘Professional Certificate in Legal Qualities – Practical Legal Skills’, which will run until October 2. The program, which is being organized by the International Academy for Mediation and Arbitration, comprises three 15-training-hour workshops. The program witnessed the participation of many lawyers, arbitrators, legal researchers, contract engineers, project directors, and staff members and students of faculties of law. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sheikh Thani said the legal profession “is part of the human heritage,” citing Article (2) of the Qatari legal profession law, which means “a free profession that aims to achieve justice and contributes with the judiciary in establishing its rules and co-operation of litigants in defending their rights and freedoms.” It added that “lawyers practicing their profession enjoy rights and the guarantees stipulated in this law.”Sheikh Thani underscored the importance of training programs in refining the skills of lawyers and legal experts, and pointed out that QICCA “is keenly interested in disseminating legal culture in the State of Qatar through training courses throughout the year in various legal fields.” He said QICCA regularly holds the ‘Qualification and Preparation of the Arbitrators Program’, which aims to help the participants qualify in the practice of arbitration in the country. Sheikh Thani lauded the agenda of the ‘Professional Certificate in Legal Qualities – Practical Legal Skills” ‘program, noting that the first workshop focuses on analysis, adaptation, and legal reasoning. He said the language of the law is described as “the language of persuasion because it is a language that addresses the mind with sound logic and is based on argument and proof.” The second workshop deals with drafting of memoranda, proceedings, and judicial appeals, while the third workshop discusses drafting contracts and providing legal advice, added Sheikh Thani.
